SMS truncated when sent by an external host

This can happen when an external host (PLC, computer, etc.) is driving the modem using AT commands to send SMS. Only part of the SMS is received, and sometimes the modem locks-up when sending the SMS.

The proper way of sending an SMS is:

1. Enter command eg  AT+CMGS=99999999
2. Wait for modem response "> "   ("larger than" symbol AND a space)
3. enter the message body, ending with CTRL-Z
4. Wait for a terminal response (OK, ERROR, +CME ERROR, etc)

Some hosts will skip step 2 and send the content of the message directly following the +CMGS command. This can be a cause of truncated messages.
